Default Save Energy In Your Home

1) Check For Drafts
To test an area, simply hold your hand or a lit candle, up against a door or window. If you feel cold air coming in (PAUSE)… warm air is escaping. And as your mother always said, “Why heat the outside?!” The fix is simple. Apply weather-stripping around all doors and windows. Fill in any cracks on window frames or floorboards with filler or sealant.
You'll save hundreds of dollars on your annual heating bill while saving the planet.
2) Thermostat Control
Turning down your thermostat by just 1 degree can reduce your energy consumption by more than 5%.... And you won't even notice the difference.
3)Turn It Off
You already know you should turn off any appliances you're not using. This includes switching off lights when you leave a room.
4) Hot Water
Your hot water heater does NOT need to be set higher than 140 degrees Fahrenheit, or 60 degrees centigrade. Any higher, and the system automatically adds cold water to cool it back down for use. Now that's just wasteful.

The cost of improving the airtightness of your home through caulking is low compared with the subsequent fuel savings and increased comfort. Silicone caulking is ideal for metal, glass, glazed tile and plastic surfaces because it sticks, flexes and does not shrink over time.

1. To test an area, simply hold the palm of your hand up against a door or window.
2. Set your clothes washer to the warm or cold water setting, not hot.
3. Turn down your water heater thermostat.
4. Use less hot water by installing low-flow shower heads.
5. Be careful not to overheat or overcool rooms.
