Streamlight makes a TwinTask line of flashlights that have six LEDs and a
high power bulb. Positive click switch on side switched from 3 LED to 6 LED
to high power torch to OFF. Can be had with 3 AA, 3 C, or 1 or 2 CR123.
Using LEDS the batts are good for about 80 hrs, and about 1.5 hr on high
power. Nice aluminum case and good workmanship throughout. Should be able
to find them for between US$25 to US$30. The wife bought two as part of the
emergency kit for her preschool.

When I was a kid and I wanted to read in bed without my parents knowing I'd
hook a LED across the phone lines...this ties up your phone line so don't do
it if you're expecting a call.
good tip to test your phone lines too if you're trying to trace a line or
see if it's live.

the LED lit up well and by the way when the power goes out the phone lines
usually stay on
that means your cell phone and cordless phone will be dead so keep a no
frills plug in phone around for emergencies.

and the LED museum...more than you would ever ever ever ever want to know
about LEDs and reviews on every LED thing I've ever seen or owned along with
many I've never seen..
OK really strange but you gotta admit it's comprehensive and he has a
passion for it.
even gets into spectral analysis of different leds
check out the brightest led flashlight in the world while you're there.
